REPORTS TO:                       Supervisor, System Operations

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide efficient, courteous and reliable communication to Cooperative personnel.

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires High School Graduate/Equivalent. Prefer previous experience in operating radio equipment/two-way communication equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Requires a working knowledge of radio procedures. Requires the ability to be knowledgeable of Hart EMC policies and procedures, effectively communicating these to members; ability to become familiar with Hart EMC service territory and its boundaries. Requires the ability to become proficient in operating radio equipment/two-way communication equipment. Requires interpersonal skills for interacting with the members. Must demonstrate effective computer skills. Requires ability to work on weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

DRIVER’S LICENSE, EMPLOYMENT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION, DRUG SCREEN, RESIDENCY:

Requires the ability to successfully pass Hart EMC’s employment entrance examination and drug screen. Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Requires residency within Hart EMC’s service area.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Defined inside environment (L); Requires flexibility to work overtime as deemed necessary and to work during emergency situations. Requires the physical ability in reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing. Requires visual acuity in defined machine operation (a).

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Two-way communication with immediate supervisor on job related approvals, instructions and work progress.

External:  Demonstrates an awareness that the job exists to effectively serve each and every member, and at every opportunity to achieve increased member and public understanding for support of the Cooperative.

DISPATCHER

 The following are the essential duties and performance standards of this position. The essential duties do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Hart EMC. This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an “at will” employment relationship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The Dispatcher:

  1. Performs radio dispatching to transmit and receive operational data and information.
    • Assists line crews and maintenance personnel in the efficient restoration of service during outages.
    • Assists in the locating of crews and defective equipment during major outages and normal work schedules.
    • Receives routine operational data and information.
    • Receives and processes routine service order information.
  • 2.Receives telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner and initiates appropriate action for prompt responses.
    • Assists in requests for service.
    • Dispatches reports concerning outages to field personnel for prompt restoration of service.
    • Advises callers of the Cooperative’s policies and procedures, as needed.
