Hart EMC AMI Project

New Meters The first thing that you may notice is that you have a new Meter. The Focus electricity meter by Landis + Gyr is a state-of-the-art, all electronic meter. These meters are more accurate and maintain that accuracy longer than your old electromechanical meter. These meters along with our AMI technology will provide Hart EMC with new and timelier information about your electric service.

If you notice a yellow light slowly flashing at the bottom of the meter, do not be alarmed. This indicates proper operation of the AMI module.

The LCD display on the new meter will toggle between the Segment Check display and the Kilowatt Hour (kwh) Display. Your current meter reading will be the 5 digits shown when the Kilowatt Hour display is active. The six bars just below the numbers mimic the disk mark on an electromechanical meter and transition from left to right at a rate proportional to the energy used with one rotation equivalent to 1 kwh.

New Technology Hart EMC's Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) project is a very important part of our commitment to providing you with the best possible service at the lowest possible price. When fully functioning, AMI will provide many new features, such as:

  • Remote meter reading means fewer visits to your location, which lowers our meter reading cost and is less inconvenient to you.
  • Meter will be read daily, giving you the option of choosing your billing date.
  • Information such as voltage and blink counts will be sent to us so that we can detect problems sooner.
  • Our Control Center will be automatically notified of power loss and restoration.
This is all made possible by advanced technology called Power Line Carrier (PLC) that sends information through the power lines. Along with our partner Hunt Technologies, we are excited about the benefits that AMI will bring to the member and cooperative.

Timeline Starting in November 2006 we will be installing communication equipment and replacing residential meters. In all, over 35,000 meters will be replaced by us or our contractors between now and the projected completion date early in 2008.

If you have more questions, contact use via email at ami-admin@hartemc.com or give us a call at 800-241-4109 and we will be glad to help.
